Afrodesia MP3 — *honest talk about Afro House, the producers building it, and the African dance music scene the international press still mostly misses*.

Most international coverage of Afro House gets one or two specific things right and a lot of other things wrong. The international press caught up to Afro House around 2020 when the sound started crossing into wider electronic music spaces. The coverage has emphasised specific names that the algorithms surfaced and has missed the broader scene that produced the names. The result is coverage that flattens what is actually a rich and continuously developing music culture into a few touchpoints.

I write from inside the scene. Ten years of attention, three African cities, conversations with producers and DJs at every level of the scene from the warehouse parties to the international touring circuits. The voice is conversational because the corporate music-press tone does not capture what is actually happening. The takes are honest because flattering the algorithm-surfaced names while ignoring the broader scene would not serve readers who want to actually understand the music.
